Hola! If you are in the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) area next week then you may want to check this out with your little curly. Join in for the book launch of The Adventures of Curly Julie presented by the natural hair author J. L. Greenhill.
WHO is Curly Julie?
“Curly Julie is a little girl with curls experiencing life through the eyes of a little African American girl in America.”
The FREE event will have face painting, games, storytelling and gift bags for the children. I think that this will be a great experience for little girls and boys. Tickets are going fast so go here to rsvp now. Enjoy!
Hola peeps! I don’t mean to brag or boast but today is MY BIRTHDAY! Normally I don’t make a big deal out of it but I must thank GOD for another year of life! There has been some highs and lows; yet I’m grateful and looking forward to many more years!
This past weekend I had a pre-celebration with my beau. He surprised me with a fab dinner and a Broadway musical–After Midnight. It is set in Harlem in the 1930s–the jazz age of the Cotton Club and more! The fab Fantasia and talented Dule Hill were the guest stars; Wynton Marsalis was the artistic director for Jazz at the Lincoln Center (the orchestra). I cannot leave out the wonderful job Isabel Toledo did on the costumes, they were simply gorgeous. Ok that’s it I won’t give it all away but trust me it is a MUST see!
Well that’s all for now, I’m off to enjoy my official birthday! Enjoy your day!
Hola! This past weekend I had the honor of being on the Hair Me Out panel at my friend’s (Sade of 1Girl Boutique) event—The Beauty Soiree Part 2. It was held at the New York Foundation for the Arts in the Dumbo area of Brooklyn. The space was filled with lots of fab natural haired ladies and beauty. We had a great time sharing our personal hair stories, talking about products and more. Coming up in another post I will share the video footage but for now take a peek at the pics below. Enjoy!
It was such a fun day! I hope to be able to take part in more events like this in the future. Have you been to any great natural hair or beauty events lately? Or better yet are you planning one? Do tell!
Hola! Earlier this week I was lucky enough to attend Styled for Fall: Fossil at VOGUE. I must admit I squealed at the thought of going to the Vogue offices (so Carrie Bradshaw-ish)! As soon as I walked in I was warmly greeted and noticed the wonderful display of handbags and accessories. There were pops of color, leopard print and flashes of metallic! Fossil is definitely becoming more fashion forward which is a great move for the brand.
After the presentation we were able to use the clothing they pulled from the VOGUE closet and style them with Fossil accessories. The challenge was: Seeing Spots-accessorize with animal prints, Stack in Style-mix and match bracelets and Heat Things Up-add bold warm hues to your wardrobe. Take a peek at the look I styled and let me know what you think.
This was such a fun event! I wish much more success to Fossil and look forward to attending more events with VOGUE! If you are yearning for more check out Instagram and Twitter using these hashtags #FossilStyle and #FossilatVOGUE. Enjoy!
Hola! Last week Beautiful Textures Hair Care hosted celebs, models and entertainers to a fab dinner at the Mondrian Soho Hotel for the “Hair Icon” event. Sponsored by BET and Cadillac it was surely a grand event. It looks like all that attended had a great time!
“Strength of Nature’s Global Marketing Director, Charlene Dance hosted this incredible evening along with Michaela Angela Davis (Image Activist, BET Editorial Brand Manager). Both women expressed appreciation for those who continue to support the Beautiful Textures brand and all it has to offer for multi-cultural, multi-textured women who refuse to be defined by society’s standards of beauty. An emotionally engaging affair, attendees toasted to celebrating being no-longer monolithic and taking ownership in an event that was created just for them. Encompassing contemporary fusion faire and signature cocktail drinks, the night can only be described as the quintessential celebration of diversity during New York Fashion Week. Highlights of the night included Hair Icon partner, Cadillac, providing luxury vehicles that dropped attendees off at the steps of the Mondrian SoHo in style and attendees all walked away with signature Beautiful Textures Hair Care Swag Bags filled to the brim with the complete line.”

Hola peeps! No matter how much I miss being on vacation, I truly missed blogging and you guys! Well, enough on that later because New York Fashion Week is here! First up is one of my fave designers—Rebecca Minkoff. Let’s dive right in shall we!
The show was very vibrant and festive just like the clothing that came down the runway. There was a huge nod to latin culture with embroidery, lace and eyelet details. The models wore their hair in milkmaid braids which reminded me of Freida Kahlo.
The juxtaposition of soft fabrics and sporty silhouettes were perfect. This yellow lace skirt with the mesh baseball/bomber style jacket is right up my alley! The accessories were fab as well—especially the tasselled pumps and cutout lace-up sandals.
Watch the complete show below and enjoy the funky sounds of singer Janelle Monàe. Enjoy!
