My Hair Update—A Look at My WnGs!

Hola peeps! I know that it has been a very long time but such is life! I am not sure how often these posts will come in but I will do my best to make them more frequent because I truly do miss blogging.

These are just a few pics of my WnGs from over the summer (Aaaahhh summer how I miss thee). I really haven’t changed my routine at all however I am focusing more on strengthening my tresses.  Any tips? Please share!

Thanks for hanging in here with SNC!

Hair Talk—8 Products for Summer Haircare

Hola peeps!  Summertime is finally here and I hope that you are enjoying it!  However with my favorite time of the year comes humidity, scorching temps, and random rain showers so we must keep our curls in check.  On that note I have listed 8 products (stylers) that can help you through it all…some I’ve tried and others I plan to try. Let’s get to it!

Summer Haircare
  1. Curls Unleashed Curl Boosting Jelly—I have yet to try this but I have read reviews that was on both ends of the spectrum.  This is a gel that aims to define curls without the crunch.  Well I am pretty much sold as I love a good gel!  I guess that this would be perfect for wash and gos and slicking down edges.
  2. Miss Jessie’s Curl Pudding—Tried and true to it’s word this pudding goes on smooth, smells great and is not sticky.  It does provide a good hold and definitely defines curls, my only gripe is that my hair looked dull once it dried.  This is great for a WnG, 2 strand twists and bantu knots.
  3. Jane Carter Solution Curl Defining Cream—This is a fantastic cream for dry kinky strands that needs that extra bit of moisture.  I have tried this on my WNG and twists before and the results were great!  Also this cream is good at slicking down edges when you want to rock a bun.
  4. Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream—This is a very rich cream that is great at moisturizing tresses and serves as a protectant against harmful rays (IMO).  Of course I tried this on my WnG but also found out that it provides a good hold for braid outs as well.
  5. Curls Gel-Les’C—As of yet I haven’t tried this product but lots of curlies are raving about it.  However I think that this gel may be best for finer curl textures (i.e. 3A-3B)  and would probably be great for to use on WnG with a soft hold.
  6. Shea Moisture Curling Gel Souffle—This is a beloved brand within the natural hair community and many love this gel as well.  I reviewed this product a few years ago (go here to read) and it wasn’t the greatest for me.  However when paired with their Curl Enhancing Smoothie to do two strand twists expect a luscious, fluffy twist-out the very next day.
  7. Carol’s Daughter Styling Pudding—I’m intrigued by this product because I am unsure if this similar to their infamous Hair Milk wrapped in new packaging or if it is a new formula altogether.  I would guess that the consistency would be creamy yet not too thick since it is a “pudding”, perhaps this would work best to set hair for a flexi-rod set or a bantu knot-out.
  8. Shea Radiance Maximum Curl Defining Cream—This cream is suppose to gently hold, resist humidity and define curls so I would try using this with braid-out.  I would guess that it would give a controlled voluminous look.

So there you have it, 8 products to get you through the summer months.  Gel, pudding, cream and soufflé…there is something for everyone and every style imaginable.  I am sure that I left out quite a few however don’t be shy, leave a comment below and let me know.  I challenge you (and myself) to explore and have fun with our hair during the best season of the year.  Enjoy!

My Hair Update—New Year Re”Hair”solution

Hola!  This post is going to be short and sweet…it’s my New Year Re”Hair”solution!  You may be thinking what does that mean, well it’s a spin on a new years resolution but with hair in mind of course.  There are a few pledges that I’m promising myself to keep this year and going forward.  They are:

1. Oil rinsing—This is the best thing I have started to do for my hair!  Prior to washing I soak my scalp and curlz with oil (preferably coconut oil for me). I like to detangle on dry hair so this helps to ease the process and gets out all the kinks.

2. Scalp massages—They not only soothing buy they also increase circulation.  A healthy scalp makes for even healthier and happy hair!

3. Moisturize—We all know the importance of it for us natural chicas however there are days when I slack, especially when I am not going anywhere.  I will make it my business to at least spritz my tresses lightly with H2O everyday.

4. Protective style—A WnG will always be my go-to style but I plan to experiment more with braids, updos and anything that will protect my ends.

5. Growth—This is simple, no cutting only trims that are either done my a professional stylist or myself.  Last year I made the mistake of getting layers cut and ended up hating them.  I really want big, long hair so I am letting it grow!

So there you have it…my list.  Do you have any New Year Re”Hair”solutions?  Come on do tell 🙂

Hair Talk—My Must-Have Products

Hola peeps!  Since I returned to natural I am often asked what hair products I use to maintain my coif.  My hair closet is filled with puddings, gels,  curl creams, conditioners and more (I’m a low-key pj) but there are a few products I keep stock piled.  Here they are in no particular order:

1) Giovanni Direct Leave-in Weightless Moisture Conditioner–  I love this conditioner!  It is super light and very moisturizing without being sticky or runny on the hair.  It also works well with other products.  I have used some leave-ins that coat the hair so much that when you add a cream or a gel it leaves a white residue—this doesn’t!

2) Shea Moisture Organic African Black Soap Purification Masque– This masque is the bomb.com!  A few months ago when I went through my extreme dry, itchy scalp scare (remember the post if not go here) this was a major player in restoring it back to normal.  I now use this along with the shampoo and conditioner in the line on the regular to keep my scalp and hair in check.  It is very soothing and claims to also aid in curing dandruff, eczema and psoriasis.

3) Organix Hydrating Teatree Mint {Hydrating Treatment}- Hydrate, refresh, or condition…you name it this product is it!  Although for the most part I use it as a hydrator for my curls after I wash but before I add in my leave-in conditioner.  It smells divine and the tea tree mint leaves your scalp feeling tingly and refreshed.  I can never find this in the store so anytime I run across it I tend to buy a couple of bottles…a must-have for sure!

4) Curls Passion Fruit Curl Control Paste– If your edges are like mine—unruly and won’t lay down then you need to pick up this paste asap!  This will snatch them back and laid for days.  There is no other edge control out there for me.

5) Jane Carter Solution Revitalizing Leave-in Conditioner– Another leave-in that I cannot do without, however I tend to use this one as a refresher.  It is perfect for reviving flat curls, add moisture to dry hair and great for prepping updos, twists, braids and more.  This will always been in my product arsenal!

6) Ampro Pro Styl Olive Oil Gel– I use all kinds of products on my hair but nothing gives me hold and shine like gel.  Don’t get me wrong I love my Eco Styler gel but this one has truly grown on me.  It doesn’t dry hair or crunchy and enhances my curl pattern.

So there you have it my must-have products!  Have your tried any of these, if so what was your experience?  Do you have a product(s) that you can’t do without?  Do tell!

Deals for your Curlz

Hola peeps!  I know that it has been awhile but with work and the holidays it is hard to keep up.  However, I’m here today to share two products that are highly discounted for the season—Kynx and Curls!  I must say I have only tried Curls products but Kynx is definitely tempting me with their 3 for $20 deal.  Will you give either of them a try?
