Product Review—Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner + Frizz-Free Curl Mousse

Hola peeps!  I hope all is good and that you are in a warmer climate than NYC because it is FREEZING here! Here is a quickie product review of Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner + Frizz-Free Curl Mousse.  I’ve been wanting to try to both of these for a while especially the mousse since it is a new product.  It was just my luck that I was browsing the aisles of Target when I stumbled upon both and at a BOGO 50% no less—sold!  Here is what I did and my experience with the two:

1) Washed with Shea Moisture Raw Shea Butter Moisture Retention Shampoo (it was trial-size and my first time trying it as well—not bad).

2) Applied Shea Moisture Restorative Conditioner.  I usually put my hair in two sections and finger comb unless it is really a mess then I use a wide-tooth by Ouidad.  The conditioner was creamy, smelled great and allowed me to detangle my hair with ease.

3) After rinsing the conditioner out I lightly spritzed my hair with my own “Refresh Mix” (water + essential oils).

4) Separated my hair into four sections then smoothed and shingled through with the Frizz-Free Curl Mousse.  The consistency was nice (not sticky), added shine and as usual the smell was great; my curls seem to like it.

5) To control frizz the that I always have in my crown I followed with a quarter-size of Ampro Pro Styl Olive Oil Gel just to keep it in tact.

6) Finally let it air dry then fluffed to my liking—viola done!

My hair with product in it. Nice curl definition and hold!

Side view before I fluffed to achieve ‘big hair”.

Overall I had a good experience with this combo and will be trying it again.  On a scale of 1-10 I would give it a 7.  Have you tried these products, if so what was your experience like?  Do tell…

Celeb Spotting—Kelis

Hola peeps!  Busy week and there is no stopping us now!  Browsing the web I came across these pics of Kelis with her fab curly fro and her cutie pie son Knight.  I’ve been a huge fan since her “Bossy” days and I must say she is running a close race with my girl Tracee Ellis Ross in the best curlz category.  However if you have been longing to hear more of her music don’t fret because she released single “Copy Cat” earlier this month and album #6 will drop in 2013.  So much to look forward to…yippy!

Monday’s Muse—Inna Modja

Hola!  Welcome to Monday!  Today’s muse is the gorgeous Malian-French singer/model- Inna Modja *Inna Bocoum her real name*.  Born in Bakamo, Mali of a Fulani family with seven children; she started singing at the young age of 6 in the choir.  Inna is so talented that she was easily able to adapt to singing in different music genres (heavy metal, swing, disco…) however she has since settled on pop soul.  Take a look at the pics…true beauty!

She is simply beautiful and the hair- LOVE!  Check out her video “I’m Am Smiling”…she makes us natural chicas proud.  Enjoy!

Solange is Back….singing again that is…

Hola peeps!  Well our fave cool sista Solo is back with her first love—music.  It has been four years since her last album Sol-Angel and the Hadley St. Dreams dropped yet she kept busy during her hiatus.  She has DJ’ed across the globe, is currently Madewell’s fashion it girl and until recently was the spokeswoman of Carol’s Daughter Transitioning Movement *also a natural hair muse for many*.

I suppose that even with different projects going on she wanted to go back to her singing roots. Her new album in which she worked with Pharrell Williams on is set to debut in early 2013.  I can dig it…VA homie Pharrell + Solo…I can’t wait to see what they have come up with.  For now here is a snippet of her single “Losing You” which comes out on Oct 2nd.  Enjoy!

reCAP—Best in Show (BET Awards)

Hola!  So, did you guys watch the BET Awards last night?  I must admit normally I don’t watch the full show but this time it was a bit different.  Eager to see the Whitney Houston tribute (everyone had been waiting/talking about it) and a glimpse of Bey and Jay (love them!) I planted myself in front of the tube and tuned in!  Well, if you missed it I am going to touch on my version of a recap—Best in Show.  Overall I wasn’t wowed by the celebs’ choices of fashion for the night so I am focusing in on the best performances (IMO), a bit of hair and anything else that caught my eye.  I hope you enjoy :-)

Monica Brown - 2012 BET Awards - Show

Monica Brown—one of the best performances of the night.  She sang her heart out during the Whitney Houston tribute and looked gorgeous doing so in a dress from the 2010 collection of the late Alexander McQueen.

Chaka Khan Singer Chaka Khan performs onstage during the 2012 BET Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on July 1, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

Chaka Khan also sang a song for the tribute and she looked equally as fab!  Check the slim figure and that hair—beautiful!  She is giving the young and old a run for their money—we all should take note…being healthy does a body GOOD!

Jay-Z (L-R) Singer Beyonce and rapper Jay-Z attend the 2012 BET Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on July 1, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

Power couple—Jay and Bey!  All smiles…happiness is the key to a great relationship and you just can’t hate on that!

Awe look at the sistas—cute!  Love that bright fuschia on Solange, oh and the Poetic Justice braids (that you really can’t see in this pic)!

Elle Varner Singer Elle Varner poses in the press room at the 2012 BET Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on July 1, 2012 in Los Angeles, California.

A shame—it’s a shame how beautiful Elle Varner is!  Peep the curlz–honey is fly!

D'Angelo - 2012 BET Awards - Show

VA homie D’Angelo made his first appearance in 12 years.  He sounded the same which was good, yet failed in the wardrobe department.  A slick suit and a little moisturizer on the natural fro would have stepped up his game.  Whateves…glad to hear his voice again!

Frankie Beverly - 2012 BET Awards - Show

Frankie Beverly and Maze brought the smooth grooves to the show.  They still got!  He won the Lifetime Achievement Award–congrats!

Tyrese Gibson - 2012 BET Awards - Show

Tyrese performed one of Frankie Beverly’s songs during the tribute to him.  He cleans up nice and sounded great!

There you have it!  This pretty much sums up my highlights of the night.  What about you…who was your fave?  Do tell…

Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix

Hola peeps!  I stumbled upon these pics of Andre 3000 in costume, as playing Jimi Hendrix in an upcoming movie about his life.  Well from what I see he has definitely nailed Hendrix’s eclectic style.  Oh and peep the fro…that is dead on Jimi.  This is a perfect match up for Andre 3000, I am sure that he will do well!

I can’t wait for more details of the movie to come out. What about you?
