Hola! I hope that you all are enjoying your weekend. I had to share this editorial spread of Elle magazine‘s Jan 2014 cover with the gorgeous supermodel Joan Smalls. Most recently she was ranked the world’s number one model by Models.com. Wow…that is such a major accomplishment at the young age of 25!
I am happy to see magazines returning to their roots and putting models on covers instead of celebs, musicians, etc. It also makes me ecstatic that Elle chose a Puerto Rican woman especially since the fashion industry has been getting tons of backlash about overlooking women of color. Scroll down to peek at the fab pics.
Want more? Well head over to Elle.com here to read the full story. Enjoy!
Hola! I wanted to/needed to pause and pay homage to an icon, fighter and striver of our time—Nelson Mandela. The former South African President died today at the age of 95. He was the first black Africa to hold the presidency office in his country—wow can you believe that! Mr. Mandela leaves behind family, friends and countrymen that loved him dearly, as well as a legacy that will on forever.
If you don’t know all that this man sacrificed for the people of South Africa and worldwide then please read (don’t just see the movie) his autobiography ‘Long Walk to Freedom‘. This book was mostly written in secrecy in his jail cell where he was wrongfully imprisoned for 27 years. It is necessary that we share his legacy with our children so that they can pass it on to theirs.
May you rest in paradise Madiba. <3
Hola! If you haven’t heard of or seen the likes of the beautiful Lupita Nyong’o then you have clearly been living under a rock. She is definitely a rising style and fashionista who can be seen in the famed film ’12 Years a Slave’. Lupita graced the pages of DuJour.com donning fresh threads in shades of white and blue. Go here to read the full article and to get all the deets on the looks. She is simply radiant, don’t you agree?

Hola! Welcome to Monday and a short work week! I am gearing up for the holiday but I must take time out to share today’s muse—Melissa De Sousa. She is most recently known as the feisty Shelby in new movie ‘The Best Man Holiday’ (a must-see). However she is not new to the big screen, Melissa started acting back in 1998 and her career continues to soar. Take a peek at the pics and notice the transition of her curlz to blond wavy tresses. I love her natural hair best but she is gorgeous nonetheless. Which look is your fave? Do tell.
Rocking her natural curlz circa 1995.

Hola! Here is why you need to pick up the Dec 2013/Jan 2014 issue of Ladies Home Journal magazine—First Lady Michelle Obama. I mean she just exudes elegance and grace. Now this is a cover done right (take note LUCKY–no shade) because it is simply beautiful!
I must also add that LHJ has really step up their game in the mag world.. Last month I had the opportunity to attend their Get Social conference which was very informative. Don’t sleep on them and go pick up the issue. I definitely plan to. Keep up the good work LHJ!

Hola! Not to long ago it was announced that Solange x Puma was collaborating on a sneaker line. The fashionista curated The Girls of Blaze collection all while styling true to the Puma athletic spirit. Look out for brightly colored fresh kicks in stores for the holiday season! Take a peek.
I am no sneakerhead but I think that adding a pair of these to my closet my add a bit of pep to my step. What are your thoughts…a go or no?
Hola peeps! Today’s muse—DJ Rashida has spun hip hop, house, soul, pop, rock and more all over the world! The talented international dj got her start at the young age of 18 when she bought her first turntables. Since then she has worked with the likes of Kanye West, The Roots, John Legend and her biggest break collaboration of all…Prince. Wow what a resume!

Let’s talk about that coif! The fact that she plays with color, updos and accessories is great. She obviously loves her curlz and it is great to see a celeb celebrate their natural texture while in the spotlight. Kudos to you DJ Rashida! What do you think of today’s muse? Do tell.
Hola peeps! Did you chicas watch Black Girls Rock last night? Well if you didn’t you missed out! It was a spectacular show highlighting girls and women for the positive things they are doing in their communities. Today’s muse—Mara Brock Akil was one of the women awarded. You may have seen some of her television work as she was the creator and executive producers of Girlfriends, The Game and most recently Being MaryJane. She also wrote the successful film—Sparkle (starred Whitney Houston).
Looking fab at Essence Black Women in Hollywood event earlier this year.

Here is the fab Mara with our favorite (well mine at least) Girlfriends. I wish she would create a movie or one last episode for old times sake. They all look great!
Aside from her past/current accomplishments I foresee many more in the near future for Mara. She is truly a black girl who rocks! Don’t you agree?
Hola! The gorgeous Kelly Rowland covers the November issue of FASHIZBLACK magazine. The issue hits the stands on Nov. 8th in France and two weeks later in the US and UK. Thoughts? Do tell.

Hola peeps! I hope that you had a great weekend! Today’s muse—Africa Miranda deems herself the “hairnista” and once you see the pics you will understand why. She grew up in Montgomery, AL but has Cape Verdean roots. The beauty is a singer, print/commercial model and an actress. You may have seen her recently on Bravo TV’s new reality show, The New Atlanta. That is actually where I first noticed her although now I am seeing her pop up all over the place from hair product ads in magazines (Crème of Nature, ORS to name a few) and food commercials. Take a peek and share your thoughts.
I love this quote:
“Life is best lived with a fabulous head of hair”—Africa Miranda
Keep up with her here and she has a blog too! Enjoy!
