Speechless…

Hola peeps!  I hope that your Saturday is going great.  Well, today I am totally SPEECHLESS!  I think that I am experiencing writer’s block or whatever so I need your help.  SNC is not only my site/outlet for fashion, hair, and all that falls in-between but it is your soapbox as well.  So why not spill the beans on your fashion, hair or whatever tickles your fancy.  Feel free to send in pics, stories, or topics that you would like to see here on Sass ‘n Curlz.

At the moment I am working on stories/being contacted by some pretty cool companies and I would love to share it all with you guys.  Please don’t be shy, I need your feedback so that I can share all of this goodness with you.  So jump right in and get your feet wet, why don’t ya!  My inbox is waiting for you :o )

Friday Sass—Rock Your Shorts Two Ways

Hola!  Happy Friday!  Today’s sass is based on my personal chant that I am TRYING to say to myself more often—”before you buy…retry”.  I’ve been shopping my own closet lately and I am finding old treasures that are new again just by mixing and matching them differently.  While this is fun, I must say I love shopping for new items so the battle is on.  Wish me luck and enjoy!

Naturals in Ads—Artist Misha McGlown

Hola!  Just wanted to put you on to another fab natural that I saw in an ad **well kinda**.  I was invited to Harlem Flo yesterday, unfortunately I got it a bit too late and wasn’t able to attend.  However, that didn’t stop me from looking up this talented artist—Misha McGlown.  Her work is phenomenal and I must admit it was her luscious ’fro that intrigued me to find out more about her.  Please check out her site www.OmoMishaGallery.com.  You won’t be sorry!  Enjoy!

Hair Talk—Transitioning & Humidity

Hola peeps!  A reader that is transitioning asked me for suggestions on how to maintain straight, unrelaxed hair in the summer **humidity!!!**  This is a tough one, my answer to her was to try braid-outs or twist-outs to blend the two different textures until she is ready to chop.  I explained that it would be hard to keep the hair straight in a humid climate without using some type of heat whether it be a flat-iron, blow drying, pressing or roller setting  **all of which I am against except for the latter**.  So I wanted to pass the baton to you guys and see what suggestions you may have.

How do you maintain straight hair (natural/transitioning) during the summer months?

“TELL YOU ONE LESSON I’VE LEARNED IF YOU WANNA BE SOMETHING IN LIFE YOU AIN’T GONNA GET IT UNLESS YOU GIVE A LITTLE BIT OF SACRIFICE SOMETIMES BEFORE YOU SMILE YOU GOTTA CRY YOU NEED A HEART THATS FILLED WITH MUSIC IF YOU USE IT YOU CAN FLY….IF YOU WANNA BE HIGH”

Influenced by Suede Magazine circa 2005!

Hola peeps!  I hope all is good.  My closet swap is still in progress and I am trying to rework what I already have instead of running out to purchase new goods **so tempting**.  As of late I have been resorting to my massive magazine collection for ideas and since everything old is new again it will give me a fresh perspective on how to mix and match what I currently own.

I pulled out my April 2005 issue of SUEDE magazine.  This is an oldie but definitely a goodie.  If you weren’t lucky enough to browse the pages of this glossy mag which was filled with vibrant pics that always reflected urban and ethnic beauties and products then here are few images to get acquainted.

2005 = 2011

-wide-legged pants are in

-Tyra on top and in the spotlight

-bright colors and prints are on point

-natural chicas are reppin

**Best believe I will NOT be throwing out my vintage mags, wide-legs and I am natural for life!  Enjoy!

even President Obama was in Suede before he even thought about running...

Monday’s Muse—Chrishell Stubbs

Hola!  Welcome to another week, I hope that you had a fab weekend.  Today’s beautiful muse hails from Turks and Caicos Islands and is a newcomer to the modeling world yet she works it just like a pro—Chrishell Stubbs.  I am sure that you have seen tons of mag editorials of her or perhaps in ads such as GAP, H&M, Ralph Lauren and the list goes on.  She definitely has the beauty and seemingly a humble personality to make it big.  Speaking of which check out those BIG luscious curls of hers—gorg!!

My Summer Essentials

Hola peeps!  I hope that your Saturday is going great.  The wet/chilly weather is still here in NYC and nothing can soothe me except knowing that warmer temps will eventually come.  Since Spring has yet to make an appearance **i have doubts that it will** I am jumping directly into summer shopping.  Here is a look that I have put together as a “Summer Essentials” checklist of items that I want to add to my wardrobe.

1) Color–hence the bright-colored big bag/sandals

2) Cool but timeless accessories- aviators never go out of style and looks great on just about anyone; a white round-face leather watch is chic and will take you through the entire season

3) Mineral-based make-up- products that allows your skin to breathe and not feel heavy is ideal for a fresh, flawless summer face (bareMinerals is my fave!)

4) Blouson Dress- perfect for camouflaging problem areas yet still allow you to move with ease and look cute

5) Comfortable heeled sandal- step it up a notch in a cute gladiator high-heel sandal (3″ is my limit)

Click the pic if you are interested in deets.  So, what are your summer essentials?  Do tell…

they say 3rd time’s a charm….Jane Carter Solution Review

Hola peeps!  I hope all is good.  Well you read the post title and all I can say is I beg to differ with that saying.  Much thanks to the Jane Carter Solution team for sending me a travel kit of hair goodies to try.  The kit consisted of shampoo, conditioners (leave-in and reg), curl cream, wrap & roll setting lotion, hair serums, and more!

As you all know from my two previous reviews of their products I didn’t have much luck but I was willing to give it a try yet again.  This time I went for the shampoo and conditioner.  I have been on the lookout for a new poo that gets the job done but in a delicate manner.  The scent is mild and the consistency of the duo is great…not too watery but also not heavy.  I liked that it rinsed out nicely and didn’t leave a sticky film on my hair.  On a scale of 1 to 10 I would give the Moisture Nourishing Shampoo and Nutrient Replenishing Conditioner a 7.  I would definitely try these again.

After my hair was squeaky clean I used a bit of Revitalizing Leave-in Conditioner **pulled from my own stash that i had purchased earlier**, in which I raked through my hair with my fingers.  Last, I finished off with the Curl Defining Cream **personal stash again**.  Ok, I just have to say for the last time this product doesn’t work on my hair.  I think that my 3c/4a hair type just rejects it.  It literally sits on my hair and I have to work hard for it to really blend in.  I don’t know about you guys but when I use a cream curl I love for it to melt in my hair if that makes sense.  This JC curl cream doesn’t do that for me.  Perhaps, if you have fine strands similar to 2a/2b hair it will work better.

I finished by twisting my hair at night, then rocked a twist-out updo the next day…..booooo!  I so wanted to love all of these products but as in life there were some hits and misses.  So for me 3rd time’s not a charm.  Look on the bright side, since the kit didn’t play well with my hair there may be something in it for you…stay tuned.  Enjoy the pics!
