Jay-z’s DECODED…..

Screen-shot-2010-11-12-at-2.56.23-PM

Hola!  If you love J (yes I call him “J”..lol) as much as I do then you will definitely want to pick up his new book DECODED.  He sold out Brooklyn Museum where he had an interview with Charlie Rose to discuss exactly what the book is about.  Well, what is it about you may ask??  Growing up BK style, lyrics, philanthropy and more…but that is what I think so far as I read snippets here and there.  But don’t take just take  my word for it, here is an excerpt of what he had to say about his book:

Decoded is first and foremost, a book of rhymes, which is ironic because I don’t actually write my rhymes–they come to me in my head and I record them. The book is packed with the stories from my life that are the foundation of my lyrics–stories about coming up in the streets of Brooklyn in the 80′s and 90′s, stories about becoming an artist and entrepreneur and discovering worlds that I never dreamed existed when I was a kid. But it always comes back to the rhymes. There’s poetry in hip-hop lyrics–not just mine, but in the work of all the great hip-hop artists, from KRS-One and Rakim to Biggie and Pac to a hundred emcees on a hundred corners all over the world that you’ve never heard of.”

The Global Africa Project—The Museum of Arts and Design

Hola!  I hope all is good with ya!  Just wanted to share that The Global Africa Project opens at The Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) tomorrow.  If you are interested in contemporary African art, design and craft then this is the exhibition that you need to see.  Here is a snippet from their site about the exhibit:

Featuring the work over 100 artists working in Africa, Europe, Asia, the United States, and the Caribbean, The Global Africa Project surveys the rich pool of new talent emerging from the African continent and its influence on artists around the world. Through ceramics, basketry, textiles, jewelry, furniture, and fashion, as well as selective examples of architecture, photography, painting, and sculpture…

I think that this would be a perfect outing for the young and old this holiday season.   Instead of running to the shops for Black Friday sales why not take a trip to the museum and binge on some culture.  If you can’t make it then don’t worry the exhibition is running until May 15, 2011.  For more info click here.  Enjoy!
